Specialising in delicious, authentic northern-Italian food served in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, this venue is a real treat. The lowdownIf you're going to Café Murano, make a deal beforehand to really treat yourself.

We had a course from each section on the menu – the cicchetti (bitesize snacks), followed by the antipasti, the primi (a pasta) and finally the secondi (the main).

For an antipasti, we recommend the beef carpaccio, followed by the Italian sausage ragu and, finally, the lamb breast, which is served with pea, baby gem, mint and goat's curd.

Café Murano | Covent Garden Restaurant This regards Italians and theatre.

We’re talking about the technically British Angela Hartnett, Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin Starred protégée and head of the very well respected Café Murano in St James’s; and also technically British Richard Lloyd, Angela’s very own protégée and as of now, the current head chef at her brand new, very Italian Café Murano outpost in Covent Garden.

It is, like the original, inappropriately known as Café Murano.

NOTE: Café Murano, Convent Garden, is now open.

During the first two days of her new restaurant Café Murano Covent Garden, which opened on Monday, she spent more time in the basement kitchen than schmoozing guests in the dining room.

WELCOME TO CAFE MURANO – Angela Hartnett’s Northern Italian restaurant in the heart of both St James’s and Covent Garden.

The kitchen takes a simple yet uncompromising approach to Italian cooking and we print the menu daily.

The wine list is 100% Italian and we focus on the best artisan growers from across the country.

Cocktails too are resolutely authentic and Italian in their approach.

Our Pastificio and wine shop, situated next door to our Covent Garden restaurant, offers a selection of pastas, sauces and a range of specialist Italian produce all available to take home.

A second branch of Angela Hartnett's Italian gem specialising in laid-back luxe, with a focus on dishes from the north of the country.

Hartnett’s style of Italian cooking wins hearts for its big flavours and minds for its just-so technique.

In her kitchen, peasant classics such as braised lamb shoulder with Tuscan beans and celery reach delicious new heights: the tenderness of the meat a testament to slow-cooking mastery.

Some other suggestions: firmly textured caponata with aubergine and green olives; delicate, fresh tagliatelle Bolognese with minced lamb and veal; or push the boat out with an intensely tender rabbit leg, summer onions, chilli and pecorino (more of that slow cooking).

Café Murano is a reminder of how satisfying ingredient-led Mediterranean cooking can be – and with Bella Italia and Strada just across the road, it’s also a glaring message that the bar on Italian food in Covent Garden has been significantly raised.
